Giving Parents A Choice. Giving Children a Chance.
The Education Freedom Fund's mission is to provide low-income Michigan families with a choice in the schools their children attend by giving tuition assistance through scholarships.
Today, more than ever, the quality of a child's education will determine his or her future success. Thousands of low-income parents across Michigan find it nearly impossible to provide their children with a quality education because their children's school is failing them. Yet they know a good education can open the door to a brighter future for their children.
EFF operates on the premise that all parents, regardless of income, should have the opportunity to provide their children with the best education available. While some parents can afford to send their child to a private school or move to a better school district, this choice is not available to parents with low-incomes the ones who need this option the most. For them, choosing another school is beyond their financial means. Under these circumstances, poor children are often condemned to schools that don't provide the quality education they deserve.
Every year more than 5,000 Children apply for an EFF scholarship. Unfortunately, EFF is able to award a scholarship to only 1 in 16. We are committed to answering this need with more scholarships every year. We have embarked on an aggressive effort to raise money across Michigan to give these children the same opportunity for success that others enjoy.
EFF scholarships are awarded to children in grades K-8 from low-income families who qualify for the federal government's free or reduced-price lunch program.Recipients receive a maximum of $1,000 annually; their parents must pay a minimum of $500 in tuition per child. Parents can choose from a wide variety of private religious, secular and even cross-district public schools for their children.
Education Freedom Fund relies upon the support of private individuals, corporations and foundations from all over Michigan for the donations that provide hundreds of scholarships each year.Every penny received in donations goes directly to the scholarships because our administrative costs are privately funded.
